Excellent list!
But here's a name everyone will know, but few will know as being originally Jewish -the Viennese Strausses! The father of Johann Strauss I was Jewish before he converted to Catholicism...

Great stuff Gapcohen!!
I must try and find that list of things that were invented by Israelis and post it on my blog. It was amazing! I may email my friend in Sydney and get her to send it to me again. Jews have contributed to science and technology as well as music in many ways that people do not know because they accept inventions and forget where they come from.
A lot of the very positive and uplifting hits of the lst century were written by Jewish writers to Jewish tunes.
Glad dear ole Bobbie Zim aka Dylan is back in the right fold again. I was so disappointed with the Slow train Coming days and his evangelistic JC days. I stopped buying records. Love his old stuff and maybe should listen to some of his newer songs ....is he still writing new material?

Thank you so much for your coment on minimalism and for telling me about the great hotel. I see more and more that I will travel extensively in the US when i come back in a few months time. Cosy hotel and art museum in one seems extremely interesting to me. Would you mind giving me name and location again in an email so I can include it in my "to see" folder.

Re: cool
I think most people have Jewish relatives somewhere - and some are Jewish and don't even know it!

Sometimes I think my brother and I are the only ones who remember that group!
Love "Wake Me, Shake Me" and "Flute Thing"

Who ever suggested that Jews have no sense of fun? So many entertainers are of the faith.

I have to say that I don't think I've ever considered the backround of the artists whom write or perform the music I listen to........I'm definitely not surprised that these songs you mention were written by Jews. I just love "the lion sleeps tonight"........

Actually, FineYoungSinger,
Adam Sandler got his list from Scott's book! Just didn't attribute it.

This is a great list!
I gotta say it---about halfway down the list, I started thinking of Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song....anything that makes me think of music is a great thing, even if it's a comic piece. Love your blog!
