Re: Our sick society.

 Zenster,

Do you really think that we will do more than say, "Tsk, tsk. Isn't it AWFUL? Then we will go on just as we always have. Our children and grandchildren will curse our memory over how shortsighted and selfish we now are, but human nature being as it is, they will pass on an even worse world to their kids, too. Luckily for us, we will be dead by then, or they would kill us. They just might, anyway.

Re: Simplification

  Soul Man,

I am also guilty of taking advantage of advances in technology, ( he typed on his computer keyboard) but if we ratcheted down our demands for ever increasingly more of everything and were more patient and were satisfied with using older technology, recycled more, etc, we may regress more slowly. When life as we now know it crashes, everyone will be in for a massive shock in the forms of famine, wars over diminishing resourses and space and we will probably wind up fighting the other miserable survivors with stones and clubs.

Mankind is actually a parasitic infestation on Earth, like worms and fleas, in and on a dog. Eventually we are destined to kill the host. It is like someone who is living an unhealthy lifestyle. If we ruin our bodies, where are we going to live?

Come to think about it, electrical wires, electrical appliances, paint, carpets, polluted air, engineered foods, artificial cloth and materials like plastic trees...they all are responsible for the degenerations of which you speak. I am satisfied that we were not meant to live like this. What choices do we have? Great write!

You are so right when you say that "society" is heading in a scary direction. But, you've also proven that there IS something we can do about it........and YOU'RE doing it, e.g. no cell phone, no plastic bottles, not to mention writing this post advising readers to pay attention - "simplify". I like the idea of simplifying......living w/ less.
