Re: mmmmm, the lemon chicken sound awesome. I love trying
I found that spices are cheaper when bought at a spice store, the only problem is that your first trip or two can be expensive!!

Common tastes combined in new ways
Love the story but you don't need exotic spices to get adventurous. Try frying dill pickles in butter and add a little salsa just before taking them up. Or sautee mushrooms in olive oil with, beef stock, red wine and Worcestershire. Or caramelize onions in butter with brown sugar and cinnamon. :)

Tattered
I confess I'm a bit of a dolt when it comes to spices... I wish I knew more because I'm guilty of cooking the same way (although most would say I'm a good cook).  I stick to the standards - oregano, basil, rosemary, and yes citrus pepper - but I'd like to expand my repertoire .  You make those exotic spices sound so yummy and aromatic.

Yes
spices are wonderful and its great you are open to experimenting with them and other foods and drinks.  In India we make chai by throwing water and spices in a pot, bringing it to boil, adding tea leaves and milk.  When the while brew boils we take it off the flame, strain it and drink it, wiht or without sugar. Tried this?  Cheers.

new things too.  I try to buy one new thing every time I do my bi-weekly grocery shopping.  After reading this, I may switch to a new spice or herb each trip.  Great post!
