Hi, Justi......................
I've been away - visited over Easter with my granddaughters who live in Dallas. I had a great time with them, I went to church with them and their other grandmother on Easter, and I just enjoyed it all very much. Of course, I was out of my comfort zone and it made it a bit harder to function, but I wouldn't trade that time for anything. Thank God I got to go and He watched out for me all the way. Getting on and off the planes were a bit tramatic, but one has to take some bitter with the sweet. It was great, but I was also glad to get home to Don and my comfort zone.
I hope your's was fantastic, dear lady, and I hope you are still feeling well.
Love, Maggie

Justi,
My parent's were fantastic. They did their level best to give me and my sister every opportunity in life (I talk about them quite often, because they are a big part of my life). As far as functional families go, mine was pretty darn close to perfect.
But I'm still dysfunctional. They took me to church every single week. But I'm not a Christian, and now refuse to set foot into a church. I could have gone to any university or college I wanted--medical school, law school--you name it, I could have done it. But I walked away from post secondary education after only 2 years. And my sister is even worse!
On the other hand, my best friend was raised in a home filled with divorce, alcoholism and physical and emotional abuse. Now, she attends church every sunday. She worked 2 jobs and went to school full time, and managed to graduate college a year early. She's got a great job, with a great future ahead of her.
In both cases, the child went against their upbringing, to become the person that they are. Perhaps there's something more at work here; some internal force that dictates who we will be. Something that dysfunctional and/or functional families can not change.

In the US, about 40% of white children are born to unmarried women these days, about 70% of black children...and many of these kids grow up in single-parent households that
are dysfunctional...

I have always believed that we grow up despite our parents. LOL
but serious for a moment no matter how one tries and how one introduces a child to God they will make their own choices as they grow up or old. If they do well they did it all themselves, if everything doesn't work out as they wanted it's their parents fault. I had wonderful parents. I'll love their memory till the day I die. I brought my boys up in the church. They have chosen a different path.

Justi, why do we learn so late? Its so easy to think we are doing things right and then be hit with the knowledge that somehow, somewhere along the way we fouled up.
