Sometimes I feel that more women could be aware if we propagated it. I did, for many years. Now I feel its the turn of others. And, the fact that more women are in politics - feminists or not - is a good sign. We learn by role modeling, and if women are not seen in certain places, young people - both women and men - don't know otherwise. Even though there is a commercial turn to IWD - at least women get attention and that's the beginning of the beginning, right?

I'm finding that many women are not even aware of it. I have enlightened a few this year. There sure are a lot of women very interested in the Presidential race between Obama and Hillary who would like to see a woman president of the USA for a change.

I agree. In some ways, having Hillary as the Democratic candidate is a victory of women's rights, yes?

I think that may be true. But it was there even the 70s and 80s when I lived in the US. In the 70s we were demonstrating in DC for the ERA or the Equal Rights Amendment - which was never passed. The US constitution is one of the few int he world that does not guarantee equal rights to women and men. It was to be a constitutional amendment and needed ratification of 2/3 of the States. At its saddest - and most ludicrous - moment the Republicans and conservatives said it would mean that women and men would have to use the same toilets - how crazy is that?

I am pleased you are now aware of it. I think we an get by the commercialism - somehow cannot escape it.

I agree
My worst nightmare is that some more Bush relatives will pop up somewhere and run for President four years from now.

I saw a few advertisements re: this but, nothing in the mainstream media.........and, yes, it's a shame. However, right now, in the US, we are so caught up in the upcoming election that not much else is discussed. (Most of us are only concerned with getting beyond BUSH......ANYONE but BUSH.........

Oddly enough
There is not much said about it here, certainly not many honors given out. I wonder if many women have been lulled into a feeling of complacency about women's rights in general.

I was not aware of this...Sad however that commercialism reaps its greedy cause again, and should taint such an honorable day.

Elyse I trust you will enjoy the honor of IWD
