I love it! You have answered your own question. How indeed? But, I am sure if you did one box at a time you would manage. Have a goal that in the next six months you will clear them out. This way it gets easier. I know that works for me. Then I start imagining what I would do with all the space that is opened up by clearing these things out. Also, its a great way to know what you do have, yes?

I know what you mean. Are we sentimental or just too attached? I know I am going to have a though time soon when I have to deal with old photographs and letters. But, I weeded out a whole bunch yesterday and managed OK. I know I can do it and it get easier.

you too are so right. I like the six month rule and once again, like to think I abide by it. However, attachment is a terrible thing. And, I feel guilty about having to give away things I spent money on. But, the good news is that I am getting better at it. Forward! Thanks for cheering me on.

you are so right. Although I know all this in theory, and wax eloquently to others on this, I often forget it. Thanks for the reminder!

Greenfields, Three years ago I moved to where I now live. You would not believe how many boxes have never been opened in that three years. Now I don't even want to open them, but I do not have the courage to just get rid of them as they are. How could I need them if I have not opened them in three years?

things multiply seemingly all by themselves sometimes. my rule is no matter what if i haven;t used in 1 year's time it is time to go. all though since i am sentimental it is very hard to throw things out.

Stuff - it eats up our homes. Fortunately over the past few years I've become quite disciplined about purging. I have a 6 month rule - if I haven't used it, thought about it, or needed it over a 6 month period then it probably shouldn't be in my home and could be better used by someone else. Good luck with all the sorting....

Do it the same way as eating an elephant. One bite at a time.
Once you decide to donate some things, take them immediately. You'll feel lighter, happier, not having all that stuff weighing on your mind. Another idea -- whenever you bring in something new, get rid of something old. Just maintain a constant inventory.

Thank you for the support and suggesting I can manage. You are so right. We all have too much stuff. And, there are so many that have so little or nothing at all. I do plan to donate it to a HIV/AIDS de-addiction centre - a lovely woman called Elizabeth who runs two second hand shops - the proceeds go to her centres. And, welcome to Blogit. Cheers.

it is amazing though how everyone nowadays seems to have too much stuff...i think we need to lead more simple lives and donate what we no longer need or use...best of luck to you though with your situation
