Naut,
they are, and the reasonable world may have to learn the hard way that accommodation can be exploited by those who are not reasonable. I hope not. I hope reason - the centre of Aristotelean philopsophy - will prevail. God knows, it needs to.

Re: Nautikos
It is extremely discomforting, mneme! And I strongly suspect that these unwarranted attempts at 'accommodation' are going to backfire badly in the end...

Krisles, my dear, we're being swamped by insanity, but I hope you enjoy your holiday anyway...

Yep, Wiley, you're absolutely right. This country we both love is going down the tubes...

You and I did, Sira...and at Cornwall, they have a fantastic smuggling operation going, because their territory straggles the Canada-US border, and nobody, neither the US nor Canada, can do anything about it...

The Archbishop of Canterbury said that? Somehow that's not a comforting thought. And as for classes being changed for prayers.. when in Rome ... And if you want a teaching day structured around Muslim prayer, go to a Muslim university.

What if...
...Christian groups asked for these accommodations? They would be run off the campus! They would be accused of violating the separation of Church and State. Why don't Muslims face this same scrutiny? It's a rhetorical question. We all know the answer! Great post!

I'm looking out at the "Arch" in Cabos.....it's almost sunset......so beautiful.....and my eyes are filling with tears........thinking of the world as I've always known it.....and the world as it is becoming........the beauty.......the sadness I'm feeling as I think of what your post is about.....I've gone 'round and 'round in just a few minutes....I don't know....I'm going back down for a drink and to watch the sunset and try to put it out of my mind a while longer.....but we do have to deal with it and stop it because it is insanity.....good post, my friend.

I shall paraphrase I think they call it, from something taken out of what William Lloyd Garrison wrote about slavery.
The compact which exists between Canada and it's immigrants is a covenant with death of Canada as we know it, and an agreement with hell. Our country and our way of life are being eroded because we all can't stand up for our own customs and belief's.

Don't get me started Naut!
This has been a bone of contention with me for a while now. I can't find an english speaking bank teller. Even the language on the ATM screen has changed--I have to pick english as my option as it's not the default language anymore!
I notice the "special accommodations" most with the Native Americans. They ask for equality, and in the same breath, they demand special treatment. They don't want to pay taxes. They expect the government (aka the taxpayers, like me!) to pay for all their housing and post secondary education. Apparently the meaning of equality has been changed to "special treatment for those who think they deserve it".
I can't afford to buy a house, but there's a whole reserve full of natives sitting in brand new homes, living off welfare and Indian Benefits Payments. And guess who paid for it all...

Well, I ain't offended by your comment - but I
am offended by those allowing this erosion of our tradition. I am a conservative, remember?

The problem is, Ginnie, that 'appeasement' leads to ever greater problems, as history demonstrates time and time again...

And what about the Sikh RCMP officers wanting to wear turbans versus the age old traditional hat. No offense – but that one got me.

Approaching? We've been landing at that runway for... a long time.
The minority has always run the world -- it's the golden rule, them that has the gold makes the rule. Nowadays the vocal minority seems to have a lot of leverage with guys who run local gyms and just don't want trouble. Seems strange to ask the college to schedule classes around the Muslim prayer schedule... Students already have a wide choice of classes at different times. Oh, crap! I've officially become a dinosaur.

Those who make requests for accommodations would blast others in their homeland for any requests made to them about an alien's beliefs. Could one imagine asking for a co-ed gym in a country that separates the two sexes? Murder comes to mind first? So what language are you speaking these days? Another bone of contention with me as well. Stimulating entry my friend, very stimulating! sam

Okay, afzal, two issues here! First, that ain't exactly my point; second, we're making quite an assumption here, that it's
beauty that is being hidden...
