I like your list of priorities, Sira
I think you've got them lined up in the proper order.  As for being scattered:  that's me to a T.  I find that writing helps me collect all the things that occupy my imagination together so that I can pick and choose what I want to use and what I think will work well together.  And I'm always imposing deadlines on myself to keep the ball rolling.  Success, whether or not it's monetary, will be when I can ignore most writing deadlines except for the self-imposed ones.

I work better under pressure

Mom says it's because I've always been a scattered sort of person. Unless I have a specific goal, I tend to wander aimlessly and never accomplish much of anything. So I set myself deadlines, even if no one else cares when the work gets done. I care, and that's all that matters.

As for priorities, mine are pretty straight forward:

1) Mark. He takes precedence over just about everything. He's my inspiration to live my life well, and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for him.

2) My parents. They're mentors and friends, and I'd have been lost without them.

3) Writing. Blogit, my novels, whatever. As long as I'm putting words to "paper", I'm a happy camper. And if I can make some money from writing, that's even better still.

Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to Blogit.  I'm sorry that cut phone lines and computer problems have kept me from responding to your comment sooner.  I agree that deadlines are a necessary evil.  Most writers are natural born dreamers and procrastinators who would finish very little if it were not for deadlines.  You have an interesting "about me" page.  I'll drop by for a visit soon, phone line and computer permitting.

Deadly deadlines
I wouldn't call myself a fan but you know sometimes a deadline is just what you need to get that piece finished, otherwise it's sat around and it's bothering you, niggling away, and then you'll pull your hair out anyway.

A necessary evil in my book.

Likewise, white-cossack
Especially the last minute deadlines that keep you up all night that are handed out by editors who then proceed to go home on time, or early.  I also like the requests for a quick two or three hundred words with about a thirty minute deadline.  The things we put up with to earn a paycheck!

I HATE THEM
with such a passion that I will do everything possible to get them out of the way so I can feel "free". I keep going back to the anvil for a new set of ankle braclets though...

Agreed on both counts, FineYoungSinger
Thanks for sharing.  I was pretty sure I wasn't the only one who felt that way about deadlines.

I've lost sleep over deadlines.
I've skipped meals over deadlines.  I've run myself ragged.  That deadline is a writer's best friend---and his/her most bitter enemy.
