Dunno, Ann. But whatever freakish things we do now, we don't usually consume our freaks in hope of getting rich, though we might exhibit them in circuses...

strat, poverty and hunger are factors. But that still doesn't explain how their supertitions take these forms. I think these people's culture has simply not yet managed to overcome what appears to be a very deep-seated human trait - the fear of and hostility towards those who are different.

Great post...
...sometimes it makes you wonder how or why people rebuke those who are different. What a world. Is there any hope that we can ever come together?

It's not a homogenous world.
I wonder what they consider freakish about us but which we consider quite normal.

Wow. You'd think in this day and age that wouldn't be happening.
But poverty and hunger do a lot of things -- most of them bad. And wars are generally started through population pressure morethan anything else. Scary.

Hi Nautikos
How sad, and doesn't it show how wide is the gap between worlds. I also agree with Taps, inasmuch the way people are treated can shape - or mishape - the way they develop. Good post.

So many fear the slightest difference, but this is a new prejudice.
I think I read somewhere that some cultures feared twins in the same way. Weird.

Even here in the US, albinos don't have it all that easy. People stare, ask stupid questions, make comments. One that I know has been a fighter (physical) all of his life struggling to prove his self-worth. This has caused him to have a nasty attitude, several arrests, jail time, five different wives, eleven children (all of normal characteristics), many different jobs, often fired for being hard to get along with. No one wants to be treated like a freak.
