I've been worried about you, wondered how you were doing, whether you'd completed the romantic story you'd been posting here in serial form. Then something hit the proverbial fan and I went to our friend's yahoo site to check on him -- there you were. There you are! What a relief.
I think what disappoints me most here is the misleading sales pitch to non-members. I expected to find a writer's exchange, workshopping opportunities. What I've experienced has been primarily what you describe -- a back fence situation where gossip and sniping carry the day. Sticking to the writers and creative folk has been useful -- but like you, I'm disappointed with ongoing policies, pettiness and arbitrary decisions that seem to undermine the very purpose of participation. Be well, and whatever happens, keep writing!!
