You're welcome! I find, though, that scotch adds a certain delicious note to that peculiar drifting feeling...

Sometimes you don't even need the scotch... but thanks for explaining that peculiar drifting feeling :) I thought I was just dissociating.

Nautikos I can see I should read the comments, then the post
and try not to put both feet in my mouth as I comment. You have some great comments on here which I read after posting my own. Good stuff.

Didn't see any cameras. Now that I don't sip that long any more I just close my eyes and decide where I want to be. LOL Cute post!

This made interesting reading and is one fine scientific example of the feeling of the out-of-body-experience. Until now, only those with NDE's have experienced this, so far as I knew. Thank you so much. Want your permission if I could pick a line or two for referencing in one of my future posts?

There are certain drugs one could take, as well as certain mushrooms, and something called peyote, that some people claim can give one an "out-of-body experience"...but, as the late President Nixon (R.I.P.) might have said, "That would be wrong!"

You're both caught.....but, you can't help it.....you're guys.......
You can shave them, teach them manners and put them in a smoking jacket....but guys will  still always secretly want to drop a bug down your back.........that was a line (or real close to it) in some B movie a friend and I saw once long ago that we have always referred to over the years......  That's okay, someone's gotta drink that rotgut!

posted by Krisles on November 1, 2007 at 7:51 PM | link to this | reply

No, its all Corbin's fault!
I was talking of something civilized, like scotch, but Corbin, nooooo...I mean he could have mentioned something half decent like Bourbon, but he has to come up with that rotgut...

Yuck! Nope, this one doesn't come with a worm........and,
Why do so many of Nautikos' blogs end up being about critters and slugs and such....hmmmm.......seems like chocolate was so much more promising....and a martini sounded good.......then you boys started talking about moonshine and I tried to get back to the subject (out-of-body).....and then it was back to bugs and whatever that category is worms belong to.....it's like a sink hole or something in here for biology.....

posted by Krisles on November 1, 2007 at 7:26 PM | link to this | reply

Re: Seriously,
And I bet you're already eaten the worm.......I bet it would be good to use as a chaser for our shine.........

Okay, I'll trade you half a mason jar of Newfoundland 'screech' for half a mason jar of Eastern Kentucky 'shine'...

Re: How about an out of body, get a new superbody experiment?
Cringe, I like Hobbledeen! So you went trick or treatin' with the girls, and ate all the chocolate yourself? Tsk, tsk!

Naut.......
Just try a half a mason jar of "shine" from Eastern Kentucky and you'll have an "out of this world" experience......

How about an out of body, get a new superbody experiment?
That'd be nice, even for 5 mins (2 many ' Happy Hobbledeen' chocolates - Rowan can't say Halloween so from now on we'll use the former word).

Re: Nautikos, which is what it sounds to me like the point of the experiment.
So you like scotch, Zena? I like all of the single malts! The Glens are always nice! But I also like the peaty ones, like a Lagavulin, for example!

Re: I'll opt for a sip of Bushmill's. That camera experiment sounds interesting
Pat, that isn't mentioned in this very brief description here in the Scientific American in front of me, but the whole thing appears in Science, Aug 24, which you should be able to get hold of at your library...

Re: I'd like a scootch, too........
LOL! I have other examples where one isn't sure where one's own body ends and the other one begins - a kind of 'abolition' of boundaries...

Nautikos, which is what it sounds to me like the point of the experiment.
Which was a good one.  I'll take one of those Scotches, please. Glenlivet, or any old Glen will do.

We have no access to 'reality' outside of perception, although 'perception' itself is by no means a simple an unproblematic issue...

I'll opt for a sip of Bushmill's. That camera experiment sounds interesting
and at the same time I'm wondering what foundation or agency funded the research. I've got an idea for a magazine I'd like to edit.

I'd like a scootch, too........
How about the original weird experiment all kids do, "dead man's finger".....put your index finger against another person's and then take turns sliding your thumb and forefinger up and down the two joined fingers.....WEIRD......

i'll take the scootch / spinner

Nautikos,
Interesting.  That confirms the idea that perception is reality, or, at least alters reality. Our senses do play tricks on us.
