Hi Nautikos
I don't like to think about it

- and who'd be an astronaut? BTW, I did battle with a two-inch cockroach last night; it just didn't want to lie down even after I sprayed it. I certainly wouldn't eat one.

I know I inadvertently eat bugs all the time because they are in our food supply and in food preparations....and the "glad of it" and inoculated comments were tied into the "War of the Worlds" reference....the aliens were killed off because they couldn't take all the germs here on earth....that's all I meant.....semi-serious silliness, my usual stuff!

See, my point exactly! Throw them on a china plate, add a few greens, and voila, someone will think it's the latest thing, and pay exorbitant prices for it. People are funny, aren't they?

Nautikos, the world IS full of a number of things, and to quote RL
Stevenson, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings. If it came down to bugs or nothing, I'd say, saute' the suckers and let me at 'em. At the rate the population is growing, we may have to get more creative and less fussy.
If connossieurs of fine dining eat crayfish and sushi, silkworm ought to sell as haute cuisine. Especially if you put truffle sawce on it.

Didn't you just write about moths being a good protein or fat source not that long ago? Seems like I remember referencing "War of the Worlds" then.....I know I inadvertently eat bugs all the time and am damn glad of it....I'm inoculated! That said, I wouldn't put those things they eat on "Survivor" in my mouth short of having a gun held to my head!

Mars? Don't go to Mars? Heck, I don't even drive to Chicago!
And in case you weren't looking, they put "bugs" in the food for cattle, chickens, etc. to make them market ready sooner, they add hormones (itty-bitty bugs) to green growing things, so we're already ingesting "bugs." I won't mention the assorted mites and hairs and odd fibers that sneak into various packaged foods along the assembly line... But for astronauts, it sounds like a good idea.
