i do not understand how illegal immigration has BEEN ALLOWED to get so far
out of control. This issue has been around long before Bush became President; that is not to say I agree with how he is handling the issue...I don't. As you pointed out , Justi, in another piece you wrote, this is one more issue where money and greed are at the very root of the problem. At this point drastic reformation is needed. On the one hand all illegals should be sent home but this would cause the bitterest of disagreements with our Southern neighbors as illegal immigration has been overlooked for so long now that there are several generations of illegals here who have intermarried, have legal children here, who have served and/ or are serving in our military and who have adopted our customs, our language, and who have adopted our way of life. If, however, we make exception for these it is grossly unfair to not only those immigrants who have gone through the legal means of gaining citizenship, but to every U.S.citizen in our country who is literally going to be paying to be losing more and more of his income in taxes to support the needs of the illegals. I don't know how this mess is going to be resolved, but I know it must begin with securing our borders! They better be secured...can you imagine what might happen if a p'oed Mexico elected a "Chavez" as President?

I don't know who said it was Bush and Fox (comment below) that created this nightmare but it is far from the truth. Fact is Mexico could very easily create a lucrative economy at home and keep the illegals (mexican) there. This issue goes back much further than Bush or Fox...In fact what we need to do is enforce the laws of this land and keep the illegals on the other side of the border....This goes for all illegal, not just Mexican.. This is a legal issue we MUST allow law enforcement to ensure the law is not broken.
