I would be firm with the children and put down some boundaries. As see it, you and your husband are being taken advantage of. Unless you do this you are supporting a situation that will make things worse for them and you. You don't need this, believe me.

I don't think it's you LLL .... it's just them - kids today want the easy way out and if they could sit on a couch all day or hang out with friends they would!

it's not easy to handle teenage children but I'm lucky that my two teenage daughters are obedient. My eldest is a secondary school teacher and staying on her own. And my youngest is currently in the teaching college ( will be a teacher in 4 years' time ).

Live has no guaranee! As a parent I am there with you. We sacrifice for our children and forget to teach them how to sacrifice. Ah, now would they learn? Probably the only way they learn is to live it.
Don't despair, cling to yur husband, pray and don't be hard on yourselves.
