Azur, I saw you peeking in on Cringe's post.
How you doing?  Good to at least see your name here once in a while.

I haven't been in blogit for a while; I hope you had a nice birthday and that you are well - thinking of you.

I've just realised that I can neither read without the glasses I've become
so accustomed to in such a short time, or think without the coffee I pump into myself every day (which I've not had the time to do today, busy with work).

So, I'm trying to understand what I just read, and re-read it (because of everyone's comments because initially I must've misunderstood), so to you, I only wish good outcomes, and the ones that suit you, not the anonymous 'they' who I don't give a flying fart about.

'They' say lots of things, Azur.  I went back in time and forward in geography.  This may sound like failure to some, but I know better.  With your mental attitude, you cannot fail.

You are too young to waste away in what most people would call Utopia.  Go back to the excitement; when you are old and feeble you can return contented.  Many, many, many happy returns.

Thomas Wolfe maintained that we could never go back, Azur. And in
mnay respects, he was correct.  You're not the same person when you return; the environment you left and remember is also changed, even if it looks exactly the same superficially.  But it sounds like you did the right thing, years ago.  I feel your story.  I grew up in a languid, smothering place, and, although I wasn't traumatized or have any really bad memories, I feel a terrible melancholy, a slowness of spirit when I return to the place I grew up.  At least, for me, Thomas Wolfe was right...

There is home and then there is Home.

I always thought that the good ol' USA was HOME. When living away from her, I was homesick, sort of, but not really.

I missed her stores and foods and knowing every predictable thing about her. I could live in the US with my eyes closed and motor on auto pilot. Ease of everything, like that.

But, for everyday unpredictablility and newness, there was no comparison to the other nations that I often called home.

Some souls are meant to be planted in some specific soil and there is no way around that fact or the soul fails to thrive. Replant yourself if the health news is good. May God make the news good. Please, God, let her return to her soulful place.

Hi Azur...
Who are They anyways? And who gave them permission to think for us? lol. Anyways, I agree that you can go back to any place you want. You just can't go back in time unfortunately!

Well, the dice will halt where they will.

Despite all our planning and dreaming and dreading, when the moment occurs, good or bad, our reactions are usually going to surprise us.

Somtimes because they are just right.

Oh, happy b'day soon. Birthdays are like hinges on the doorways of
time, sometimes they swing back and forth, sometimes the door closes behind you.

Sounds like you're not longing for "back" but for "forward."
There are places that feed your soul for no apparent reason. They may not be idyllic or what suits others, but when you're in the most beautiful dead zone in the world, your heart and mind are in one of those desert places TS Eliot wrote about.  As I read your post I kept nodding, agreeing. I'm working on certain dreams here, giving my sons the illusion of being nearby, but my heart is an Arab, riding out a windstorm under thin cover.

Re: Happy Birthday coming up!
Did I just write "good" about 14 times? How inarticulate of me!
