Pat, dancing in the dining room is excellent, especially if you're dancing on the table after a couple of glasses of wine and lots of chocolate drops...

we are just hitting that ideal weather - no longer cold, and well before impossible heat. just to underline the point, i've walked two days in a row (just ask my hip joints). ouch.

That sounds about right! Of course, I have a couple of glasses of wine
with dinner as well, and I usually begin with an
hors d'oeuvre of chocolate drops...

I guess that's my problem, then! The weather in these parts is completely unsuitable! If I want to lose weight, I gotta move...

the way to lose weight is to 'wait' till the weather is just right - not too cold, not too hot - for a daily walk. Or so I tell myself.

Naut, I just went to our local torture device shop and priced
a treadmill, thinking to tone up what I can't seem to lose... Unfortunately their sale prices are still double what I'm willing to pay. I guess I'll start dancing in the dining room, pump up the Bose and let the Eagles rock...

Re: I just read a feature in the CSPI Nutrition journal that belly fat,
Pat, you're absolutely correct. I have looked at a lot of those studies myself, and the evidence is just overwhelming. I have a special edition of one of my favourite magazines in front of me as I write, it's called Feast and Famine, Scientific American, September 2007. Do yourself a favor and get a copy! As should everybody else!
One little observation: nobody should look like an apple! Women may look like pears, and men should look like upside-down pears...

I just read a feature in the CSPI Nutrition journal that belly fat,
the visceral level, not that which is just under the skin, actually produces inflammatory and insulin resistant chemicals - the so-called oxidants. According to the article, scientific studies show that having a waistline of more than 35" means your own belly fat is spewing out cancer-causing chemicals. Being sedentary causes this chemical spill to increase -- walking 12 miles a week will slow it down a bit, jogging 20 will reverse it...

Re: Not just overweight like me? I saw the picture.....you're doing fine!
Thanks for the compliments, Chyrlann! It's been a bit of a struggle for me after the accident, and I ain't there yet, but I'm getting closer.
And you're quite right, of course - it's not just a question of calories. Metabolism has a lot to do with it, and factors of health. And congrats on your own weight loss!

Not just overweight like me? I saw the picture.....you're doing fine!
I have an objective view as opposed to subjective? (I think that is an 'in the eyes of the overweighter' view), like opinions regarding an art-piece, subjective or objective by the viewer? None the less......I have recently learned why I was unable to lose weight, ie; obsessive exerciser, veg/healthy food-eater. The scales would not drop, very discouraging. I have what is known as insulin resistance (not diabetis, but the precursor) and many remain living with this...precursor without ever submitting to full blown diabetis because they do exercise & eat right, but their basal metabolic thingy is awry.
I wasn't 'getting' enough protein, even so eating very little...I couldn't digest it. The repercussions are found in being fatigued after eating, mid-line belly fat, etc., contributing to low metabolism. So....I found a protein (for the first time since my female surgery eight years ago, which is what started the chain reaction), that I could digest. I have lost ten lbs. in six weeks. First time scales went backwards in eight years & feels good. The entire overweight thing has been overwhelmingly discouraging because I wasn't even eating meat, doing all the right things, very disciplined and getting nowhere!
So, in conclusion....(di,di,di,da), obviously fast food garbage is contributing to a mass majority, but others are fighting the insulin resistance problem & it just takes the right type of protein (healthy) to get back on track! But....you look f-i-n-e darling! ~Blessings~

I'm still trying to push the proteins on Son #1 because that's what his doctors want for him. Yesterday I cooked him a nice little beef chuck roast that tasted and smelled so good that I couldn't keep from picking at it. Oh woe is me!

It's pretty well established that the level of hormones in our red meats is too high. Of course, it's not done so that
we should ingest that, but simply to grow the animals more rapidly. I don't eat much red meat, mostly chicken and fish, but even with that we have problems...

and our obesity in kids is just alarming. We are what we eat. It's that simple. We have to stop blaming evryone else. since my separation and I eat my kinda meals fruit cheese little fibre bread nuts occassional fish or chicken, a glass of wine and only breakfast and supper. I have lost 12Kilos. I needed to lose them and still want to lose more but ....just with a diet change I did that. I'm not big, I don't need big fatty meaty meals all the time or snacks or fizzy sugary drinks. Most of my eating was comfort food anyway.

Since I don't eat a lot of meat I can't imagine being over weight because of it. I do need to lose about 2 or 4 pounds before winter in order to fit back into my size 4's. I always thought it was exercise and not what you ate so much....

I believe it is a conspiracy to allow all those growth hormones etc., in the feed for chickens, pork and beef. It is in our dairy too. We are chemical laden without taking it in ourselves. I eat as much fresh vegetables and fruit as is possible. It is great in the summer because of our local growers, but I can't find grass fed beef near me.
