I think I got your moniker spelled out completely this time.  What I was trying to say was that the twist is often best when we don't see it coming the first time.  Then, upon retelling, it becomes one of the favorite parts of the story if it was well done to start with.  Thanks for reading and commenting on the twist.

Hi, spinner
I'm always pleased when I'm able to deliver what's needed.

Most of the little stories I tell here are oldies that still make me smile.  My goal is not so much to be original as to tell a good story.  Old stories told well still bring pleasure.  Like the new moniker, by the way, although the old one was pretty neat, too.

Thanks, Mademoiselle
The set up is often the most important part of a story that isn't all that strong on its own.  Although in this case the story, your comment about your uncle's story, and real events going back to "The Great Impostor" and before, indicate that stories like this are not always as far off base as we would like to think.

That was a really good set-up. At first I thought this was going to be a serious post.

My uncle often tells a very similar joke, actually. Although, in his case, I think it may have been based on an actual incident.

Sometimes I fear that my doctor isn't even a real doctor.
Just some guy who everyone thinks is a doctor
because he walks around calling himself a doctor,
and wears a white coat, and has a medical degree.
