Small town newspapers, particularly the non-daily ones traditionally pay very little. Many won't pay anything unless you ask. Small budgets are part of the reason. Competition from people who will work for nothing just to jet a byline is the other part of the problem. But if you are any good at all, you can get paid something. And it is good training for future writing jobs, including novelist. An amazing number of novelists have newspaper reporter on their resume.l

I wrote for a city newspaper when I was a teen
very cheap labor to cover high school girls' games

However, I did have my name published for things I had written and I have not done it since then....

.Dave.
Once they start printing my articles again I'll supply you with a link to the paper. I would prefer you read one of my columns, but they hardly ever run them anymore. I have been designated as the columnist worthy only to write about local within the country sports topics.

I'd like to read one of your sports reports. Even if I ended up not understanding a word of it, I'd still like to read it.

Thank you so much for all of the kind words. I would like to think my sports writing has wider appeal than my esteemed sports editor gives it credit for. His predecessor and the editor of a rival publication both thought so. But enough sour grapes. I need to buzz out of here pretty quick because I'm still playing phone tag.

Your post just explained with perfect clarity why I went down to 1 blog.
And the kamikaze nature of visits and comments. I'll bet your sports articles are interesting to general readers as well as the families and fans of the sports teams. Have fun!

Hi, Dreamgirl
Unfortunately I won't be around most of the next eight hours. But I'll try to find time to visit before the day is done. I've already got quite a bit of catching up to do.
