Here in the USA, they are called "Campaign Contributions"
In New Jersey, we have been trying to eliminate the "Pay to Play" form of bribery where those who contribute to the most to a mayoral or council member campaign stand the best shot of getting municipal contracts and those who contribute nothing stand no chance.  Areas of success in this effort have been spotty and problematic.

IMHO, the only way around this is to eliminate the power of political parties and the lemming-like voting habits of their members.
