Yeah, the male of the species is strange that way.  I remember my days of tryouts and practice.  Hard as it was, I loved it.  I also loved that "hotter than the hinge on the gates to hell" description.  I need to jot that one down.

Those high school football players go through a hellish practice season
here in the Midwest. It gets hotter than the hinges on the gate to hell in August, upper 90s is expected, but triple digits is common, and then factor in the 85-95% humidity, the heavy uniforms. It's survival of the fittest for a band of brothers who will, before the season ends, be playing in sleet and snow, slipping and sliding in rain. And they say it's fun.

TAPS.
It's always a nice start to a day to be able to share a laugh with someone.  Glad it worked out that way for you.

TAPS.
I'm always pleased when I can provide a pleasurable time trip for someone.  Sports writing has traditionally been mostly a guy thing.  But in recent years more and more women have gotten into the field as both reporters and commentators.  And more and more in broadcasting women have made inroads into being informed and perceptive commentators on sports.  It's a trend that I consider to be a very good thing.  You might want to give it a try.  You might become the next fabulous sports babe.

You take me back to the days when my four boys were active in football, soccer, basketball and little league baseball, and the days that I coached a girls basketball team for an after-school community league.  Now its my grandsons into that stuff.  Sports has always been a bit part of my life but I have never written about sports.

Thanks, Irish
We'll have to talk some football once the season starts.  I cover high school football, and I'm more into the college game (Go Tarheels!), but I have followed the Lions since I was a little fellow and I route for the Carolina Panthers with my son.
