Many thanks for all of the kind words. I'll take a careful and appreciative reader over a lofty ranking every time. As for Mr. Bonds, I think he is an arrogant jerk. And he may be as juiced as you say. But he was racking up Hall of Fame worthy stats and MVP seasons galore long before recent allegations of steroid use. It's a tough call as to whether illegal substances have enhanced his abilities that much just because of the bigger home run numbers. Remember, Hank Aaron was a high average hitter with decent power for a long time before he started specializing in the long ball. I think he decided, rightly, that tons of home runs made more money than tons of singles.

The best of the best poets are probably among the most brilliant people in the world. I think it's rather like playing sports. Almost everyone has a go at one or more sports while growing up, and many continue to play sports well into their adult years. But of all those who try a given sport only a tiny, tiny fraction of them will ever be good enough to make decent money playing for a living. That, however, doesn't detract from the fun factor.

.Dave.
I think most people skip the baseball bit. That's why I've started using the subheadings. I know few share my love of the game, so the subheads enable you to scroll right over the ho-hum more baseball stuff. Thanks for reading the rest.

Glad U found something uplifting in baseball.Bonds' homers don't thrill now
beacause we suspect he can do anything with all the help he got from the illegal shots, juices and unsportsmanlike help.
Loved what you shared about writing...and the Powell novel, Elvis and your marvelous understanding of the market. BLOGIT ought to reward writers like yourself for adding to their luster and value. Shalom from Durbin

I agree with your comments on poetry.
It's basically easier to write - and to read. You could argue that it attracts a lower class of writers than novels, and therefore deserves its lower economic status. But then again, as you say, the top poets are very highly respected, and it's hard to think of a cooler thing to be!

NAP, glad you made the distinction between quality & quickness. I shall have a word with Chuck Dung, who is currently submitting poems in the wrong category.
That Elvis film and original book sound interesting.
I skipped the baseball bit.
Tara.
