Having fun with sports is what it is supposed to be all about.  When it was no longer fun for my son I let him quit although he was getting good enough to have a chance to play beyond high school in two sports.  Becoming good enough to be a pro is such a long shot that it shouldn't even be a consideration until a youngster shows continuing improvement well into the high school years.  If it were easy, every one of us who ever dreamed of being a major leaguer would be drawing the big bucks now.

Well, I've bought various toys for my children, and purchased a squishy bat and balls yesterday, but we're just playing ... not becoming pros.

I'm sorry you missed it.  It was actually a pretty good game with a close score and the uniqueness of an inside-the-park home run.  But I know circumstances can work against you.  I've only been able to catch three or four of them over the last ten years myself.

Thanks.  I'm happy you liked it and I would like to claim great skill as a writer, but I'm afraid it's just the result of years of sports writing experience.

I missed the All-Star game for the third year in a row. I am annoyed with
myself.  I love the All-Star game.
