Re: cabin
Thanks for sharing about the meditation practice in Budhism . I am very much inspired from the life of Budha who began his life by asking questions about life and death and the final attainment of Nirvana . I shall ask you to write a post on the spiritual teaching of Budha if you may so like to do one day . Thanks!

cabin
there are many buddhist and other retreat centres where you can rent a cabin for 1-2 weeks (or longer). The ones I have used have no electricity or phones so you are off the grid. You bring in food that lasts 1-2 weeks in a cooler with ice-packs or sealed somehow and cooled in a nearby stream, have no phone, internet TV and all the rest of it, and away you go. It is well worth doing. Best (imho) if you have something to work on, like buddhist meditation practice in my case which complements the situation, but it could be anything as long as it does not stir up unnecessary entertainment factors since the whole point is just to stop spinning so much and maintain direct awareness of passing of the present moment. Also, since most of us lead highly socialised lives, simply being truly alone for a few days is extremely interesting. Everyone should do it for at least one week a year ideally, but of course that can't happen nowadays with employment, private property issues and all the rest of it.
Pity.

Afzal
I just want to live in a cabin in the woods somewhere....and close off the rest of the world...and never worry about these kinds of things.
Actually, I kind of do that now....only without the cabin in the woods.
