Lustorlove--In this case, he returned to the States a few months before I
did, and I never heard from him after that.  I might say he never gave me any trouble the few months before he was discharged.

Re: Hm, very interesting. --Well, there was some thought of self. After
all, he had a straight edge and big enough to use it.  Of course the floor was made of the typical bathroom tile.  It is best not to linger with a madman with a blade.  You can quote me on that in green.

another action for attention, no deed done, you got him thinking.  Your number is written in the sky of the day you will die, dont try to change that number it wont work.  Good job!

Hm, very interesting.
You were kind of psychotic to just drop that line and left, though. I mean, shouldn't you at least say, "goodbye" or something? Or maybe, "Don't stain the carpet. It's new."

Great writing and well handled!
Says a lot regarding those who announce their intents of suicide. I went through this a few years back with my son, painfully defusing his threats, once wrestling him to the ground, having him detained, etc.  Oh, it was a horribly, exhausting mental & physical time.  I knew he was crying out and I was no saving grace, I just didn't know what else to do and sought advice time and time again and no one could give me an answer, afraid to advice I assume.  I didn't go this route you have so well illustrated here, until the fourth attempt.  By then I just told him again how much I loved him, reinforced that I had tried my best to get him help and as you, stated it was now between him & God and walked away. It was a release a long time coming. It didn't change a lot although he quit threatening and attempting and now is struggling with alcohol addiction and that too I finally had to walk away from.  I wonder what other needs he'll contrive before he learns to help himself?  I'm just spent and unwilling to participate, validate or negotiate any longer.  Great writing, thank you.

Re: Maybe he was actually just threatening to shave himself ~ha Mark, you
always look at the bright side of life. Now that I think of it, and I never have until this time, is why did he have such an insrument anyway.  He was an American Indian, about 22, and I doubt if he had to shave.

Re: Offy--who knows. I would like to think so. But one thing I would not
do is attempt to get physical with a man bigger than me, with a straight edge.

Re: I like this story:-)--thanks DM. I had not thought of that incident

But what's so funny about that?

In fact, I don't think it would be at all appropriate for Reader's Digest's "Humor in Uniform", actually.

Interesting story, though.

they better have a knife, that's all I'm saying.
