I really don't know. It's mostly the same here, though, people can give you a card with money, or a gift card, it doesn't have to be something picked out at a store.

In Australia we generally take a gift to the wedding
however, it depends on the bride and groom's wishes. In many cases they have lived together prior to marriage and the usual gifts for their new household are no longer necessary. Some of my friends have written lovely poetry suggesting money spent on gifts be added to a travel fund for their honeymoon or towards renovations on their house. Everyone is different. i hope you worked something out.
