senseless killings
I'm a firm believer in the second amendment, the right to bear arms, but there needs to be more laws other than the Brady Law to keep the guns out of the wrong hands. There needs to be more enforcement.
I read in the local paper recently that a gun used to for a robbery or something was originally logged in as evidence in another shootout. How the hell did it go from the police station and back onto the streets? Was the officer asleep at the desk!
In an uncertain world, I believe in protecting myself, but our country needs to do the same. War on terror? Obviously, we're not living up to that overseas or here. Obviously, people can do whatever the hell they want, and nobody will stop them. After that domestic incident, the college had to protect its students by warning them, but they brushed it aside. Had they warned their students, then maybe that class would have never been in session. Something is wrong with this. Too many people have and will suffer over this mistake.
And we need to keep the guns out of the hands of lunatics, gangs, and anyone else with the intention of ill-will.

I think that many of the public schools have at least some security measures in place...like the grade school that Sarah would be in, if I wasn't homeschooling....they have the outer door locked and and have to ring the bell for them to open it for you.
On things so open, like a college campus....I'm not sure that much could be done to prevent such things...being that it's such an open area.
The killer was a student also...so that could have been a problem with any security that they could have had in place.
Are you comming to chat with me?

I'm not trying to make light of any signifigant issues. This world has gone to hell in a hand basket and I'm ready for God to take us out of our misery. As children of failed obedience.

They have updated some information about the killer. He was from S. Korea, a major in English, a good student and ready to graduate. Something went horribly wrong in his life to do this. I am sure we will know more as the investigation broadens.

A. you always ask the right questions. I'm sick of the boob tube. The first thing they always do is holler terrorist if the person is from another country or not of anglo heritage. I'm not trying to upset anyone but pay attention to racial profiling. I'm tired of us (Americans) always boasting about our military prowess. Yet, we can't save our own nation from diaster of any kind. (Katrina, Sept.11, "W", Hungry familes etc. Charity always starts at HOME.

I don't think this is a racial issue at all, why try to confuse?
However non citizens do not have the same rights as citizens when it comes to purchasing guns..I believe their wait period would be much longer although I am not sure of that wait time. This horrible event has nothing to do with politics..it is what it is...cold blooded murder.

It's very important that we don't loosely bandy about terms and connect this incident to the supposed 'War on Terror'. As Rocky said this shooting had nothing to do with terrorists or a political agenda, and everything to do with one mentally isolated individual.
The far-right on Blogit would just love this to turn into a racially divisive issue - and we shouldn't let them get away with it.

The person who did this shooting was a student therefore that answers your question as to how he got on campus. As to the gun control issue, there are loop holes and I don't know how this Asian got his guns. Obviously when a person is determined to kill people they will get them one way or another. As Rocky said this is not the first time this has happened but we can pray it would be the last. Under US law we have the right to bear arms..I wouldn't want that to change. I would like to see all assault weapons banned though..

Oh, and another thing Afzal...this guy was NOT a terrorist..he was a
whacked out college student that flipped. Ever since 9-11 we tend to call everyone that commits atrocities such as this...a terrorist. We need to change that!

Afzal, it's happened many times before and it will happen again.
What's the answer? Who knows. We are a free society and all the security in the world cannot stop every whacko out to wreak havoc. Maybe better gun control is one of the answers but then they would just get them through the black market. In my opinion, our world is out of control. I think and hope it is time for some divine intervention. Good post Afzal!

These things don't happen without a long history behind them.
Many things must have happened before to this person, before he commits such atrocities. The thing is in the US, as you pointed out, arms sale is free and even today the president is not willing to change the law. I'm afraid that you cannot be surprised in that case, that such violent outbreaks will happen again.
