I know the types.  W ehave them in India too, by th ecostal areas.  Only thing with them is that they don't keep light out, or do they?

There are many types of blinds sold in Malaysia. But the blind that I like best is the one made of beads sold in Sarawak.

Oh ! I recognize those...
The ones we have here are a nightmare, they are made of such thin material they literally buckle and bend with heat. Cleaning them is not easy, although in Poland they have what looks like a brush with 5 feathered prongs to dust the parallel blades. I'm glad they work for you, that's the most important thing.

if you goggle 'venetian blinds' you will get many explanations.  But the short one is that the blinds can be horizontal or vertical.  They are thin strips of plastic or woodd about 2 inches in thickness.  The length and width is cut according to the size of your window/door.  There have three sets of stings (two ont he ends and one runs through the middle).  The blinds can be pulled up and down or side to side by another string and can be stopped at any point.  Additionally there is a stick with which you can manipulate the blinds - from opening them completely to let in the full light, to closing them fully, and somehwere in between.  Would you like me to upload a picture?

i had a different perception of what venetian blinds are
the ones we have here cannot be tilted, they are built into a wooden frame that opens outwards, do you mind explaining?

O proc
I am sorry your experience of blinds was a broken one. Cleaning can be a challenge.  But then, cleaning almost anything is a challenge! I try and impress upon staff who clean my home and office that if timely cleaningis done, then it's easier.  Once the dust and dirt grind into the stuff, its a nightmare to get out.

most of life is about compromise. And often the ones who compromise come
round to enjoy the idea later.I love the way you describe venetians.Ive never seen them in a positive light before because the only place we lived in a venetian blind house they were mostly broken and the landlord didnt replace them for 3 years. They were also a pain to clean.

O yes,
I can imagine what that is like.  And, when it is bright, your room lights up, no?

I have simple red curtains where I live. I'm most fond of their redness especially when there's a slight breeze and they dance around a little.
