I guess the reasoning would be, because it takes a lot to hurt these human bodies. We are on most accounts not just going to peacefully drop over, dead...for no apparent reason.

My wife died of cancer at age 40. Why such a good person, who
didn't hurt even a fly in her lifetime, should die so early and so cruely, makes you wonder. God is as helpless towards suffering as we are.

I can honestly say that this is my favorite post of yours (so far), that I have ever read! It makes me think back to when my dad was wasting away from cancer (1980-1984). I prayed and prayed for God to cure him, but He didn't. Shortly after he finally passed away, one of my friend's (we were both 15) dad died in a sudden car accident - he thought that that was worse, because it was so sudden and unexpected. My dad did have time to help my mother prepare financially for his impending death, but those four years of helplessness were sheer torture, just watching him waste away to nothing.
- but we must move on, that's what my dad would have wanted (demanded!)
