I think either God or Mother Nature "threw down the gauntlet" when putting us into this world, and it's up to us to make whatever we want out of life, although many things are out of our hands. As for peace and love, I think they are very noble goals, but I will never subscribe to the Neville Chamberlain philosophy of "Peace at any price."!
