I am so sorry to read this. Parents don't understand the harm they do to children by depriving them of simple pleasures. Forgive your mother, she didn't know any better. You learned what not to do and seem to have done a great job with your children. Thank you for sharing this. I am sure you feel better, writing about it.

How sad...
I'd love to send you our "excess" stuffed animals in a care package. (For example, my mother has been trying to get me to clean out the ones in her house for a couple of decades now. And my own boys have retired a bunch of theirs but I have not the heart to throw them out.)
