I read the book a while back and loved it. Thank you for writing on the film as I hadn't known it was made it into a movie. I'll seek it out!

So true. The beauty of the film is that it is global in it's appeal. No matter what country you live in, there is something to identify with, in many parts of the film. Hope you get to see it soon. Cheers.

I am sure it has released in the LA area. Maybe you could check with the not very large thetres. Although, given the rave reviews, I am sure other theatres will be vying for it. Good luck.

I think it is already relased in the Kolkata theatres. You will enjoy the Bengali-ness of the film, not to mention the scenes of Kolkata. It certainly brought back fond memories of my time in the city, when I studied and worked in Kolkata in the late 60s.

I would love to see the film as family relationships fascinate me.Its funny
how at different stages in our lives we are blind and deaf to certain issues.Like the young couple in your story.I know people just like that who then had kids and became the mushiest most loving individuals you dont recognise them.

I am sure it will. Mira Nair has started a drama school in South Africa, if I remember right. Her husband, Mahmood Mamdani, is a Ugandan. Cheers.

Welcome to Blogit. I think you will see many parallels to the Asian immigrant community int eh UK and USA. There are real issues about identity - who we are, where we belong, what are th evalues we hold, etc. Do try and read the book and see the film. Cheers.

i have not seen the movie.not read too.I live in UK for past one year.yes a lot of differences.i find the camouflaged sorrow on the face of every Indian parent I meet.i find the confusion in the faces of teens i see in Emergency unit .they are there following suicide attempt, drug or being a rape victim.I myself find confused at times.two worlds merging and some are in between.
