Maybe your cat has been IMing with my cat...
He was once creeping subtly around the kitchen counter-- silently, so no one would hear funny noises in the kitchen and come looking... On the counter was a piece of beefsteak, a hunk of cheese, and a large pepper. Well, someone did come in, embarrassing him in the act, and driving him off, so he just grabbed and ran, leaping out the window with that big shiny pepper in his mouth!

Good Morning Julia...poor Rocky I hope he has learned his lesson...
my cats usually don't. My cat Abby has a thing for plastic and everytime there is any plastic around she goes and munches on it. Well, this past summer we noticed that she wasn't eating like she usually does and was acting like she was trying to cough up a hairball. So we took the flashlight and shined it down her mouth and there was a piece of plastic stuck in the back of her mouth completely surrounding her tongue. We couldn't get it out so we had to take her to our vet and $115. later it was out. She put her tongue through the plastic and the back of her tongue had a cut in it where the plastic was cutting through. She had to be on an antibiotics for two weeks. And you know what? She still hasn't learned her lesson and we have to hide anything that has a plastic or cellophane wrapping. Oh, AND she has an eating disorder...seriously!

yikes... LOL... when I was a kid, our dog learned that the hard way....
and ran around the house peeing all over the place after eating it. Must have been one hot pepper. LOL
