Dave, Mneme and Bhaskar, thanks for your most welcome comments.
As to the betting side of it, the term 'rollercoaster' gives a pretty good indication of the evening as it progressed! I ended up just breaking even!

This day was protested by the Shiva Sena activist. This is cynical to romanticism. I greatly loved your lines, especially the corny line leading to cojugality

How many born owe thanks to this old lie,

I wonder? You and I, we’re all the same:

Dependent on our parents to compose

Those corny lines leading to conjugality. Excellent!

I prefer not to fuss with Valentine's Day, and definitely no slushy cards.. tasteful one are fine, preferably "blank for your own message."  I like Dave's comment (Romanticism meets Cynicism).

Nicely balanced Tony. Romanticism V Cynicism.
But was it as good as Bolton V Arsenal? That is the question. Hope you put your money on the right score. I listened to it in my earpiece whilst sitting with Sam watching that demon TV on a different channel.

I had a good Valentine's day evening of football, betting and drink!
I could have gone to see my wife but I doubt whether it wouldhave been worthwhile or as enjoyable!

Is there a subject you can't turn into a soulful sonnet?  I think not.

Be well,

I had my 11 year old Leone going for a while, convinced her that
St. Val had been going out with St. Brigid, but I messed it up by laughing & telling her they made heart shaped St. Brigid's crosses.

It got worse after that, and verging on blasphemous, I can't elaborate for fear of lightning bolts and eternal damnation.  I may have already bagged the latter, but can't chance the former 'cos we've got bills to pay.

Hope you're chillin' this eve.  I got my fix of 'Lost, CSI & Desperate Housewives' this week from the 'dead rectangle', that's about as good as it gets.

A very serious question you have raised in the poem.
