Thanks TAPS. I just remembered one important fact about the auger man - his son was with him and auger man made sure his son went first. Maybe he wasn't as daft as I thought he was.

LOL at the thought of Bambi doing ice pirouettes, mneme. The poor guy's body was recovered yesterday. His machine will probably lie down there until the St Lawrence dries up.

That's tragic, and walking across ice is one thing I wouldn't do either. Apart from probably skidding all over the place like Bambi, I'd rather be alive to admire the view.
