my pens, happens all the time at work
It's not like I am losing them either, they always come up missing. Once I put a piece of tape on one of them with my name on it. The next day it was on someone else's desk. Two days later it was on yet another person's desk.
At least I am not paying for them, the company is.

I use to misplace my magnifying glasses, but now I have a pair or so in most every room in the house and in the cars and all over. I can't read small print without them. Seems the print is so small on everything, every where. I'm always needing my glasses. They are only a dollar apiece at the dollar store, so I have all different colored frames, now to match every outfit. Hah-Hah. I tend not to lose other things such as keys, etc. I make myself put them back where they belong immediately.

Umbrella, yes. Don't need it often enough to justify the mental energy of always remembering where it is.
Pens, no. Have enough of the them stored all over the house and in various bags and briefcase that there is always one available.
