It can be so hard to be open when you know you're "right"
And I'm just as bad about that as anyone else. It can be so difficult to be objective, when a contradictory (but true) viewpoint is staring you in the face. This is where scientific method is genius, that is if more people would follow it when it comes to everyday life. The realm of pure emotion is one thing, that's an area where reason just doesn't really work, I don't think. For example, applying reaosn to romantic relationships is a mixed bag. But in other areas, it's so important to be able to step back, detach, and try to see things as they really are.

A good, dare I say thought provoking post. However, I'm not sure whether the last sentence contradicts the rest of your message. It depends whether you are open-minded about got or not...

read the poem and the truth will set you free

Afzal...
you continually amaze me and delight my mind. It is ever enlightening to read your posts, learning as I go. Chilli's poem reaffirms your post...truth isn't always fun or easy...not always pleasant...and I agree...the epitome of truth is God. Excellent post!

Afzal ... dear friend, that is an excellent post.

I hope you don't mind me sharing this little poem with you...

The truth

Not always welcome

But always sheds light

Not always pleasant

But always relevant

Often upsetting

Never boring

Revealing

And there is no

Mending or

Healing

Without it.

I think all of us have a set of beleifs to help us through life but in my humble opinion none of these beleifs should be chizzled in stone. We should remain open to the thoughts of others while continually searching for the foundation to base our truths upon. I enjoyed this post, very much.

People get used to using formulas to determine what they believe to be true
Such as the church-men who listen only to other church-men; scholars who listen only to other scholars; businessmen who listen only to other businessmen; etc. etc. etc....

My wife
can be quite self-righteous and I once had a girlfriend who was similarly so. Maybe it's just that I'm easy going that I enable that in people?
