I didn't need a spouse to leave
My mother showed me the door when I was 16 and I've never looked back. Sometimes I wonder who those people were.

I haven't lived with my parents since before I was an adult
my father has now passed and my mother may as well be dead to me. A no brainer for me.

I would chose my spouse, as long as it is not at a lengthy distance. If it were at a lengthy distance, it would be very hard for me, but likely I would still chose my spouse, in a situation where there is real love and quality of life.
