From the Latin, meaning "having been made"
facio, facere, feci, factus -- verb meaning "to make"

So "facts" are something we make up to support our preconceived notions.

The truth, however, is something we try to avoid but eventually catches up with us.

Hi, Justi,
I just wanted to check in to let you know that I'm still hanging around Blogitville.  I hope to read and comment more, soon.  :)

Fact anymore seems to be subjective
with many people.

Justi......
I hope you're feeling better and that your pain has subsided.  God bless you, dear lady.  Pain is not fun.  My thoughts are with you.

I had never heard of truthiness¿

A fact is indisputable as you pointed out but a truth can be ambiguous because it can be my truth as I know, your truth as you know, or someone else’s truth as they know it. A truth can be something that comes from our own set beliefs, moral compass, or intuition. I’m confused now. Have I essentially agreed with what you said or challenged it?

It is becoming like only philosophers talk about truth.

Interesting word that "truthiness" with an also interesting definition.   Its getting harder all the time to be discerning.

Now I'm all confused......
How does one determine if something is factually true?

Now I'm laughing, because I didn't have the guts to tell you in my first comment  that my 2002 dictionary had 4 definitions for the word fact when it looked like yours only had 2 definitions listed, because your post posted before you were finished writing.  LOL!!!!!

Fact is, I just winked at you, because after reading your post I opened my dictionary and discovered it was printed in 2002.  Guess I better get me a new!  Hope you're feeling well this evening!  That last statement is also a fact and a truth!
