I liked your reference to the Bart Simpson hair-do. It's lovely to watch our children grow into their own!

ironically, she claims her own room is just as messy. I have noticed a small but growing collection of her things appearing around his room as sometimes she has to change here to go off to work. They are very cute, and last night he was "introduced to the family" over dinner.

...and that would result in what exactly, mneme? Perhaps a large toolshed type dustbin? Yes, you are revealing your origins ever so slightly, by jove.

it certainly is.. what I like is that it's brought out his protective side. I have experienced that myself a few times, and she is a lucky girl. They're so cute...

As a general comment, I was thinking that normally my title (Cherchez La Femme) is more often used in a negative context, in ways that suggest women, for a man, mean trouble. I like to think of it in terms of bringing out the best in a man. In a world of extremes, and a sad lack of respect for women (present blogit company excepted), it's good to see a young man treat a girl well. It's just the right thing to do.

What's nice to watch is his quiet confidence as he grows and matures. I like that he brought her home almost immediately, with no awkwardness. He's trained us not to embarass him LOL.

I like it too, I'm obviously revealing my origins here. And I don't know about a rotating garbage-can, perhaps not quite that bad - more a huge toolshed full of boys' toys... bits of engines, pieces of wood, tools that never get used and all that other stuff that can't be thrown out..

I've always been happier when I know the people my children spend time with - harder as they get older, but I'm lucky, he is happy to have his friends here often, and they are a nice crowd. Most are, I find, given the chance.

Before I comment back to you all when I have more time, I want to add this while I think about it, after Talion's thoughts - these are the lyrics from Matt Monro's Love is a Many Splendoured Thing:
Love is a many-splendoured thing:
It's the April rose that only grows in the early Spring.
Love is nature's way of give a reason to be living:
The golden crown that makes man a king.
Once on a high and windy hill,
In the morning mist, two lovers kissed,
And the world stood still.
Then your fingers touched my silent heart and taught it how to sing.
Yes, true love's a many-splendoured thing!
Once on a high and windy hill,
In the morning mist, two lovers kissed,
And the world stood still.
Then your fingers touched my silent heart and taught it how to sing.
Yes, true love's a many-splendoured thing!
My uncle's wife had this played at his funeral, after nearly 50 years of marriage. I thought that was wonderful. She had good reason.

The girlfriend may be the catalyst, but such changes were already on the horizon. A woman's affection can bring out the best in a man, but it has to be there in the first place and he must be willing.

I like the word 'prang,' mneme. I haven't heard that for a long time. Can you imagine what the world would look like without the influence of women on men? A large rotating dustbin.
