In the USA, we have different cultures
For example, my upbringing placed an emphasis on loyalty and duty, chivalry and faith. I have always thought more in terms of courtship than dating, marriage rather than relationships, fulfilment rather than happiness.  I doubt whether most people nowadays understand the distinctions.  But therein lies the root of much infidelity.  Instead, many people are keeping score both before and during marriage as to whether their "relationship" is making them happy that they feel inclined to seek out greener pastures if it isn't always.  After all, they only "entered the relationship" because their dating scorecard showed that person was more likely to make them happy.

Hmmm...
funny how we do tend to judge a book by its cover or a woman by her attire...

Afzal
This is very interesting to me for several reasons:  It is the thoughts of an Eastern man in a very different culture with different religious leanings being read by a Western woman who, though almost 70 still wears jeans and has definite ideas of her own.  The problem as I see it has something to do with making verbal committments when mentally, spiritually and emotionally, the committment is not valid.  In this day and age, it is too easy to say to oneself, "If this doesn't work out..........."

Fascinating, thought provoking post Afzal
I think underneath all the weight of gender, religion and culture, hearts long for the same light of discovering and living true unconditional love.

Well, afzal

Frankly, I do not know how to classify myself: an asian or western because I'm a half-breed. It's entire up to that particular individual to put a value in whatever he or she does. A human is a human no matter what creed , nationality or religion.

Superb post, afzal50!
As individuals, wherever we call home, each of us has the control to put and keep a cap on the activities which with such prevalence do continue throughout the day and night. While no one of us can save the world singlehandedly, it would be good to keep in mind that the rampant flights of flesh and baby oil may one day have us all swimming for shores that are swiftly disappearing. I would suggest staying out of modern-day reflections of the Tower of Babel...staying away from the windows just might not save you this time.

it's all around us
Here in the U.S. infedility is all around us, government, hollywood, friends and family.  It's common.  Young children know about it and my younger cousin told me she wishes her mom would have an affair.  People see infedility almost as a way out, rather than a symptom of a larger problem.  It's quite sad.

I have always found infidelity to be an undesirable behavior, and have been disappointed to find myself in such an environment socially.  I think we in the U.S. have been more careless, in my lifetime, at least.  But I do not appreciate it at all.

Afzal
There are just as many, and likely a whole lot more, secrets being kept here.  Infidelity runs rampant here.  People indulge in this and lie all the time. Maybe the only difference is here, it's much harder to hide, depending on circumstances.
