Comments on Iraq Has Become The Staging Area For A War With Iran

Benjamin Netanyahu told Glenn Beck the other night that, if he were still

prime minister of Israel, he would have authorized and gotten the Knesset's blessing on a strategic and surgical strike on suspected Iranian nuclear facilities already.  He says he still sees it coming, totally dependant, of course, on what the United States accomplishes in the near future.  Accomplishes militarily, that is.

And a naval airstrike, followed by a quick groundwar reminiscent of the original Iraqi campaign, might set the Middle East abuzz, but it would also allay the fears of a future nuclear confrontation between Iran and Israel, because, if nothing preemptive is done (and Iran refuses to stop its enrichment program), a nuclear exchange, albeit possibly a small one, is going to occur.

It just boils down to whether Israel or the United States takes out those facilities.  And I still believe that those persistent rumors of an overly extended military are exaggerated, Nautikos...

It already is, katray. I've been harping on this topic for a decade, a
couple of posts here on Blogit.  The rise of extremist Islam and their aggressive bent is pushing toward a massive Middle East-West confrontation.  That confrontation may be Iran...

Oh, they're in for a pound, kingmi. Anybody that has followed Western-
Middle East history in the past century, epecially the past two decades and the rise of extremist Islam, could see something like this shaping up.  What is ridiculous about this entire situation is that even if this is a "big picture" issue, our invasion and occupation of Iraq, why all the lying in the first place?  Didn't want to alarm the other nations in the Middle East?  Why should they be alarmed?  America and her allies cotrolling every other Muslim country?  What's to worry about?

Iraq is a mess, no doubt about it, but I do not see a war with Iran in the foreseeable future. At most, there might be some precision bombing of Iranian nuclear installations, possibly carried out by Israel. But I do not see a war on the ground! I can't imagine the Pentagon even remotely considering that...

Hard to imagine the world in worse, warring shape than what it is currently

but if we strike Iran...shudder to think...the whole Middle East raging and surging toward Israel and us.

Excellent post Saul.
