Very nice place! Yes, I can see where that mirror would creep you out. That's very interesting. I've seen these types of doors before, but I didn't know what they were called. I just love history. My wife and I want to own an old house.

avant--
The doorway to the left in the pic goes into the front room. THAT is one of the coffin doors--although you can't tell because it is open.

If you were to walk thru the glass doors on the right (the dining room) and then hang a left, that would take you thru the other coffin door leading into the same front room.
And btw--the mirror over the fireplace is original. Always gave me the creeps when I walked by it. I always got a VERY strong feminine feeling there and in the front room.
Could just be because I'm a woman and we love mirrors...lol

Don't apologize. I love to hear stories like this one. I'm sure there was a male presence lurking about there. Obviously, he meant you no harm. I've never heard of coffin doors. That's creepy. Have a great weekend.

There were so many houses like this where I lived north of Dallas.
As a matter of fact (and I'm not one to normally believe in such things), I really believe that there was a presence in our old Victorian. For some reason, I always sensed a strong male presence lurking about. It became so irriating that I took to shutting my bedroom door at night, as I would wake up with the uncanny feeling that someone was standing just outside my door (at the base of the stairs leading up) just watching me.
I found out later that a man who had done a great deal of remodeling the house (he loved it) had died of a heart attack within the last few years. However, I'm not su10re if it was him. And, I never felt threatened by him in the least. To top it off, the kids even commented numerous times that there was a man in the house.
Anyway, the house was over 100 years old, so I'm sure someone died there at some point. Our front room had two VERY large pocket doors (10'X12'). An old timer that came to visit pointed out that these were referred to as "coffin doors" back in the day. When a family member would die, their coffin would be carried through these doors and placed on display in the front room.
Gawd, sorry to ramble!

No, I didn't. That would've been too much for me. Alone, anyway.

Yes, it is about three miles away. What images do you pick up from looking at the photo? I was thinking about checking historical records to verify if indeed any crime was committed there.

AG,
I'm just a little slow, sometimes. The scroll-bar thingy (lol) across the bottom of the screen allowed me to read the article easily, but thank you for assisting my special needs! I was entranced by the picture and anxious to read the post. I have way too much opinion about this post so I won't elaborate, but just a few things; reminds me of the story of the deceased Vietnam vet brother's picture from the attic that possessed the wife of the younger brother after she retrieved it from the old trunk. The younger brother and family had never grieved his passing, no memorial, nothing....maybe they thought it the best way to cope (he just didn't return sort of thing). The true story, some medium intervened and when the family finally buried the photo and faced the memorial and grieving, his spirit was released to move on. We are all connected spiritually. The photo along with the post is exceptional.

I'm not sure about that. If I do go back, though, it'll be with permission. The neighbors own the property and I did not ask them if I could go in on this occasion.

You should go back. From what I understand lingering spirits mean us no harm but it sure would be interesting to catch a closer "feeling" of what story may need to be told within the abandoned farm house.

That is dangerous business. I would like to suggest a writer whose work I think you would like. Frank Perriti. This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness are his first two. He writes the invisible around us as visible and it is very interesting to say the least.

Darn it....I can't read your story!
I'm a poor person and don't have a wide screen. I caught bits and pieces as I scrolled from sided to side but kept getting lost on the return. Am I just a little slow and doing something wrong? I'll check back later.

Hi Avant, what a strange experience for you and a wild dream
for your wife! Our minds do sometimes plan tricks on us! Your old house reminds me of house I pass often and I used to tell my mother it was going to be my retirement home, because at my salary it would be all I could afford. It still may be it my taxes don't stop increasing! Take care and don't let the gobblin's get you!

Well, when I look at that picture
I think of a man dressed in an old fashioned way, like the Amish...hat, suspenders, pants, button down shirt...thin, dark mean slightly crazed eyes, no smile, tanned skin on his arms, less so on the face (hat), dark hair, scraggy beard sometimes, Biblical J name...smells like sweat and cow manure...
Well, that was fun... I should write or something...hahaha...
