Yah-shua (Jesus) was the sacrificial Lamb of God
so, in the sense of a sacrifice for moral judgment, which had used a "lamb without blemish" under the Law of Moses, Jesus was the last such sacrifice.  It is the Christian view that, by accepting Christ as that sacrifice, the believer is freed from sin (separation from God) that would otherwise be the result of the judgment against our evil deeds.  And, being freed from sin, one is freed from death, living on by "walking with" God even after our physical bodies have died.

Of course, sacrifice in the sense of an act of sacrificial love will still happen because God is Love and anyone filled with God will show that Love.  The world does not lack opportunities to show that kind of Love, even to the point of giving up physical life, and not just because of the cruelty of others.

Religion is a very personal issue but politics
has crept into it.

This is quite heavy food for thought

I believe that Jesus was the opinion of Mary's father or assumed father regarding the life and the religious obedience of is daughter.  His opinion was unique from her mother's opinion.  Mary did not sacrifice, but was raised in a religious setting where certain behaviors were expected and certain beliefs were held, making certain acts of obedience mandatory.  Sacrifice is not really an issue when one is expected to be obedient by everyone else.
