Dave, otra ves

Forgot! Senior moment there!

In Welsh the 'y' is almost always pronounced as a 'u' ; as in 'dung', 'hung', 'flung', 'stung', 'bung' ... need one go on?

Sometimes tho' it has a short 'ee' sound. Damned cunning, those Celts, you know. It's that blasted Druid's Fluid of theirs that does it.

That, and their dismal Welsh dirges, are enough to Knock yer in the Old Kent Road!

Yikes!!!

Año of course, not años!

I mean, let's get real here, you can hardly expect me to extend uncritical adulation forever, can you? Friendship ain't elastic, you know ; it can only stretch so far.

Every time I see your name, I get spots before my eyes ; keep wondering if it's severe indigestion. Not that your blog is particualrly digestion-friendly Ha Ha Ha!!!

Erhmm... feelus anus indeed!

What is this ; the Gay Hussar, or summat? Watch my lips, amigo ; it's feliz años nuevo, or if one is feeling particularly affectionate, and fogiving of other folks' indescribably awful blogs, it's feliz año ; the whole year.

How generous can one be? I mean to forego in advance infinite opportunities to slag someone off, eh? Gosh, I'm so good at that self-sacrificing stuff!

maybe I oughta get in touch with some Christian blogger to see about getting canonised. Probably get cannonised instead.

" Wanted! Person to serve as Human Cannonball! Only persons of correct calibre need apply!"

Oh, and Feelus Anus, by the way.
I'm learning.

Dearest Teleporter, you have brought back great memories there with the

mention of Richard Burton's crow-black, sloe-black, slow black, fishing-boat-bobbing sea. We listened to that in class, Myfanwy, when I was nobbut a nipper of ainly one score minus seven. Whilst contemplating what a girl was I was also introduced to Dylan Thomas. Ah, lovely.

And I heard a DT quote the other day about how to pronounce his name:

"In London they call me Dillon, but my Mother and Father call me Dullon. My friends just call me Shitface."

I've got plenty of time to look for your present then.

Oh, so we've got to put up with you again, have we???!!! So, your back to make our lives a misery again, are you? After all that gorgin' an' swillin' that you doubtless indulged in to excess over the holidays.

And here I was just enjoying the beautiful weather ( 22C in the shade. Eat your heart out, amigo! ), and I see that His Nibs's shadow looms once more! Dios mio!

I doubt if one could obtain that recording now, unfortunately. I think that it it was one of the most beautiful readings that I've ever heard ; equal almost to Richard Burton's reading of Dylan Thomas's " Under Milk Wood". Better than McNeice's " Dark Tower" and neck and neck with Dorothy L. Sayers's 1948 " Man Born To Be King"

Memorable recordings, all. There's hardly an actor or newscaster wot can talk proper these days. Talk about dumbing down!

July 25th, I shall be 21, going on 76.

Feliz año, amigo. That means not just New Year, but the whole year. OH, and welcome back!

Happy Nova Yeros!

I had a few tighteners in Keswick this festive season. And a few looseners as well.

PS, reading your desires elsewhere, I searched the net for Martin Jarvis reading the Faerie Queen. No luck, I'm afraid. I'll have to keep on searching for that elusive Christmas present.

When's your birthday?

What a mouthwatering comment!!!

The pie an' mash shop has been a cockney institution since early Victorian times, serving cheap, filling meals.

The pie, either steak and kidney or eel, was served with mashed spuds and swimming in a copious pool of  "liquor". This was a thin parsley sauce. One could also be served jellied or stewed eels, saveloys and gerkhins. All lean cuisine stuff.

Ah! Golden days! Pitifully few pie an' mash shops survive today. sic transit gloria mundi!!!

Our middle son still plays rugby for a town called Fakenham in Norfolk, England. Got the scars to prove it too ... split ears, broken ( 3 times ) nose etc.

Cornish pasties? Now that takes me back!
But what I really miss from my Grinnell-in-London semester (fall of 1978) was steak and kidney pies! Oh, that and pub lunches in general.

A few years after that, my rugby team in DC, Club Sudamericano de Rugby, founded by South American embassies' staff but taking on a sizable British component since then, had a season end picnic featuring roast mutton, as in a whole sheep on a spit.  Great stuff!

Ariel70 - Fun read here.
Actually, I learned a few things.  Thanks for the explanations at the end of the post.
