Hi Symphony
you did:) this one was quite amicable, we were both ready to move on, and I had no regrets.. I still have some warm memories, even if there is no contact.

I read this a few days ago...I am not sure if I left a comment..

I should have scrolled down first to look before commenting ...but nevermind.

I can sort of relate to this poem....I wrote a simular poem in my poetry blog...but, that is more of pondering on a past lover....

it is sad when we have to leave past friends and such behind to go on a new path.....so to speak.

Wiley,
I think we're on the same wavelength - like many of us here.  God forbid we should edit out all the emotion, it's what makes us who we are after all.. who can tell what's going to come out?

I had to read it again.  Thank you for the sweet, kind and encouraging words that you left at my post.  I appreciate your reading and your comments.

Nah, no problem luv, it just reminded me and  I never know what's going to come out either when  I write. It's all emotion with me I think. I do so enjoy your writing my friend and I meant the comment as a compliment to your writing skill luv.

johnmacnab,
I do wonder, yes, although not on this particular occasion. He may have been thinking of me, I don't know, but it was our wedding anniversary. We were very young and it didn't last.  At least we didn't argue..!

Hi Marie-Claire,
thanks - it was quite pleasant, a little quiet but I needed that this year.

A moving poem, mneme.  Do you ever wonder, when you have a sudden vivid memory of a dear one from your past, that it is because they are thinking of you even if they are no longer in this world?  Of course you do.

Bhaskar,

thank you for your thoughts. You have misread the line, though, it should be "thinking" not drinking (I was thinking..). There were other control issues too and I was too young to be hemmed in like that.

Your quotation is kind and thoughtful, and harmony, peace are my bywords... strangely they don't always go hand in hand do they? Always striving for balance through the via media

                                              And prosperity within thy palaces."

thanks, and Merry Christmas to you - and a Happy New Year...!  Pretty much all over bar the Queen's speech here (at 7:20pm local time).  She must have got up pretty early, we are ten hours ahead.

Hi Taps..
nice to see you :) I wasn't thinking about it at all, and then suddenly realised the date - funny how these things just strike you. I wrote the sonnet in about fiteen minutes.. sometimes they seem to simply flow.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you !

Wiley,
ouch.. sorry. Hadn't intended that at all.. I never know what's going to come out when I write, and as you say, it was a lifetime ago (34 years). The drinking was not to excess, but too frequent - too many nights at the pub, when I sat at home alone. We parted on friendly terms, we were just kids.
Look after yourself, and have a great Christmas..!

Well done.  I think this poem must bring memories to each and every one of us of someone who has been important in our lives at one time or another.  I know it speaks to me of someone.

Loss and LOve continue-like the universe building & unbuilding all the time
Great sonnet. Maybe I will take heart and post one I wrote a few days ago. This poem has a natural cadence, and effortlessly does the work of a well-crafted sonnet. Sad, but never desolate, since you know LOve's ways. Beautiful, like you. Happy New Year my dear friend. Thanks for your support through 2006. Neil Deo
