I respectfully disagree with you here, Timmy.
I like receiving gift cards.  I'm a hard person to purchase for, and I find it such a shame to place somebody's gift for me on a yardsale table.  I figure my family members work way to hard for their money for that.

I also like to give them, figuring it's much more considerate allowing them to enjoy the money I've expended on them rather than me impose my personal taste upon them.

Timmy
I'd rather receive a warm hug and a smile versus a gift card!

I am afraid that I have been guilty of wasting gift cards because I never made an effort to go to those specific stores.   I didn't know you could sell them.  LOL.   But, I still appreciated the gift because I knew someone had thought about me and perhaps struggled over what to give as a gift.

Timmy
I don't give a gift card unless someone specifically states they prefer one over a purchased gift.  For example, brother is remodeling his basement.  When I asked his wife what I should get him she suggested a giftcard from Lowes.  With the exception of him, everyone else is receiving a purchased or home-made gift.

Timmy, yes there is! My thoughts of what I can buy with it.
To me, that's more than enough.

It just seems that there is no thought in a gift card.

Not me, I'd much rather have to gift cards (or better still cash).

I have gotten too many gifts over the years that I simply don't use, or cannot wear, or really don't want. And it pains me because the person obviously meant well.

But if someone gives me cash or gift cards from Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy, etc.; I accept that gladly.
