A remarkable woman, Afzal. They do exist the world over, I'd say.
And men too of the same ilk. Most of us would not have the fortitude.

I'm giving my mom her turn in a few minutes, I'll be back as soon
as I can.

I'm sorry sweetie. I didn't know you were calling. I assumed it was "you
know who". I tried to answer before you hung up. I didn't understand what you were saying in the message.

Afzal
I'm not sure that I can be here, if my mom wants on the computer.
If that is the case, then I will be back here in about 1 1/2 hours, if you are still awake.

Yes, things like that don't happen around here.  If a woman did that here, she would likely be viewed as a hermit, and unable to cope.

Sunny ,
There are million of ladies who have sacrificed their lives to keep the honour and values of the Indian custom . It's quite common India and really commendable on the part of the women to be so dedicated and self-less in this part of the world.

Wow, amazing dedication and sacrifice, though I find it unnecessary.
Of course I'm of the western mentality.

Although in the east this is obviously perceived as a honourable thing to do - living in confinement thereby honouring her husband - in the west, however, I find this hard to fathom.  It seems like a waste of a life to me (and don't get me wrong I'm not "bashing" your customs).  Interesting story and custom.

This is definitely something you don't hear about often.  She must have had a truely deep love for him. This was very well written, love.
