FeedBack

I often look at what Editors write as a simple feedback.  I think that the trick is to make sure that you understand that the feeback is only relevant to the context from which it is written.

One thing may not suite a Mag or Comp but be fantastic - just not submitted to the right spot.

All sounds like fun.

Thanks all.
I didn't send off a sonnet - I don't think you'd stand any chance of winning with one - altho i could be wrong. Mneme and Star - I'll pop over as soon as I get back home from my day and evening out.

It's the same in all the arts... I never got along with the
'art directors' ...who would say, "can't you change this..."  NO! ..bug off! ...do your thing, pal... we love ya...

Tony
The Blogit standards seem to be much higher than the competition standards where you sent your sonnets for a prize winning entry. Don't get disheartened. Just tone(y) it down a bit to suit their understanding, and see. And yes, for the consultancy, after you win the prize, you'll have to promise me in advance to give a fair cut from it, ok?

Tonyzonit,
if you've got it, flounce it..! I didn't think Dave's sonnet was too terrible, but then I'm naive. Perhaps I missed something. PS (plug) did you miss my toddler sonnet?

See you all (very late) tomorrow - thanks for calling.

I have seen it!
Oh Marie-Claire, why didn't you warn me? Well you did, but not enough! I can never show my face on Blogit again. Well, i haven't shown my face on it at all, so that just proves I can't show it again. And Mneme, you are partly to blame for this sonnetary crime. You egged him on. He doesn't need much egging. He's an egghead, you could say. I might just flounce out of this chatroom and not come back... for at least ten minutes, anyway.

sozzled sonnet!

Hello Mneme and MC, the Dames from Down Under
Thanks for those words. MC, you have a one track mind - and so do I. Food - especially chocolate. Right, I'll look at that sonnet - known as the Sozzled Sonnet.

ps
if you haven't found it yet, dave's sonnet is in pondhopper poetry (under .dave. list).

winning is the icing on the blog it cake...eat the cake...
it's chocolate laced frienship with lashes of good humour...don't worry about the icing, it is bad for your teeth.

All I can say Tony there must be some bloody good poets
out there entering these here competitions, if your not getting a look in mate , markets and cottages , now why does that ring a bell ?

I just read your response and added another...

marketing and putting yourself out there is important.
Persistence, talent, perspiration, and an element of luck will get you there but without talent I would say your chances are severely limited, but talent + determination + luck = success
Tony go read my last comment to you in my blog, cuz you made me cry...

Well, I suppose it's hard to avoid the conclusion that force...
...is the only way to make people listen. You didn't like that? well how about this? And this? Until they give up and recognise your strength. I suppose when it comes to it, it's more about marketing yourself than the quality of your work. It's perspiration more than inspiration. Shame - wish i was from a rich family and could just hire a good agent!!

or get a battering ram...
or a bulldozer, nah best not force that door open. some do open and let you into their trap.

Thanks Troosha and MC
I entered a few competitions when i was a lot younger and didn't win, but really I think if you're going to go that route, you have to keep on and on battering away at the castle door, as it were, until it collapses. I haven't done that yet. It won't open straight away, and we shouldn't expect it to. We all need to gird our loins and get on our chargers!

well said Tony,
May be you deserve a prize for this one, in my book at least anyway. I can relate to the disappointment but persevere. I love the last two lines...I am the pauper indeed at the mercy of the power-that-be, just like you. I did enter some competition too, but the funny thing is, on this site apparently everybody wins, and it is a con because you have to pay a fortune to have your poem published. They keep congratulating me every week on my unique talent and being chosen for the semi-final... yeah right. Meanwhile they are massaging my ego in the hope that I will open my wallet, well fat chance of that...you get all sorts. Some competitions are a big scam and you have to be careful where you enter.

Sorry to hear about the "Dear Tony" letter
although you say you exaggerated your reaction for the sake of today's piece, I've not doubt you were still disappointed.  I'm waiting to hear back from two competitions I've entered and I'm already preparing myself for the "Dear Troosha" response.  Trudge forward.....
