That's right - economical with the reality right now!

More like Edward Lear these days, Tony. Whimsical stuff.

Hi Bhaskar
Glad you like my new humorous phase. Can't promise it'll last! I've nearly run out of jokes!

Marie-Claire and Blanche
Tsk tsk. Coffe stains on my white rug. OK, it already had crushed chocolate biscuit on it, but that's no excuse. And it's no good putting a bit of milk in the fridge, when you've put in skimmed. I don't have skimmed. Semi-skimmed next time, please? It's funny how you always hang out at my pad after I've gone to bed. When the cat's away, the mice will play, eh? It sounds like you had fun - nice to read those poems. Maybe catch you today for me, tomorrow for you!

I think I have learnt heaps withand from you people. Never in my life would I have had such an opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time. I find all I want to do is write and write some more. it is like a crazy addiction. it would be great to make money out of this you know. If I was paid by the word I'd be rich by now.

it does sharpen writing skills.
it is like an intense writing marathon here, all outdoing each other in wit and silliness. it is great.

MC,then it is. Might as well pass the time here as not.
Myself, I've spent more than a few passing hours but somehow I feel it sharpens my vocabulary, to hang out with literary people, better than to be alone with my thoughts.

I love it, MarieClaire, let's play, too bad Tony and Dave aren't here, but

oh well,

Merry wit, across the page is spattered
when I'm feeling torn and tattered
i knit up the raveled sleeve
with puns and jests
with my fellow wordsmiths and pranksters

call me MC with all the spelling versions of my name, I don't know if I am
Arthur or Bertha...I vaguely know Murder she wrote but not much, I cannot visualize. The deeper I get into literature the more I realize how little I know...scary.

cafe coming along. it is 2.10 pm.
I am short of work at the moment and I spend my time here being totally lazy, sharpening my pencilling skills on paper.

MarieClaire, (do you mind if I shorten it while we're chatting to Marie or

MC?), I don't remember Angela Lansbury well, she was a little before my time, kind of a stage and character actress, she played a great, evil witch in the Disney movie, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, which I barely remember.

Then many years later, she had a detective series on tv, where she played a matronly detective, a sort of unlikely one, bumbling old lady, very fussy and proper, in a series called "Murder She Wrote"

tony don't tonit ...down, I love your sense of humour.
I think we could have a few sparring matches you and I,
wielding words from afar,
cross each other's cultures
tread on each other's toes
have a brush with the law
and rules of grammar
Humour is a bridge across
the ocean where world apart
we meet in each other's heart
through laughter and good cheer
what could be better than that?
my friend wear your funny hat
and I'll wear mine, let us colour
each other's world with wit
cheek and silly words
what could be better than that?
trying on a different hat
to suit the occasion of the day
whether sad or deep at play
wear a new hat every day
to suit the occasion of a special day
rehearsal is not the play
but we can dress up for the day
as if it were a grand finale
for we know not when day will end
and the friends we'll never have
nor the fun we could have had
for a day is sandpit in which
adults play at being kids
building castles in the air...
you and I and many more
on the ride of a life time
on the back of simple words
said in jest and good humour.
would you say amen to that???

MarieClaire, delighted to. I have a cofee au lait, although it's a little
late. What time is it in New Zealand?

blanche,
Angela Bloooms something, and many others, apart from Lewis Caroll, I never heard off... I am really being educated here, and it is a delight, to delve into another culture and literature. I am barely brushing the surface here.

LOL, Tony, probably back in the day, Angela Lansbury was qutie the dish.
I can't see it now, all I see is the Murder She Wrote matronly Angela. Anyway, I do the same, just freeform riff off a word or a line, so I like this very much, wherever it takes you, it's all good.

Thanks Star! And hello again, MC!
Please don't worry, I continually benefit from your feedback and need it like oxygen. I need to know how what I write is perceived. So always continue to share your honest reactions. My sense of humour is often a bit off the wall. It often used to get me into trouble, in fact! So don't worry, there is nothing wrong with what you say. I'm just as 'guilty'. The reader-writer relationship is just that, a relationship, fraught with pitfalls. How can it be otherwise? This poem tonight was just a bit of fun. You actually are my main inspiration for my current vein of nonsense writing, and I am really enjoying it. It might be my wacky British sense of humour, which contains elements of surrealism and naughtiness - a classic British mix. At heart, it's just tongue in cheek, and ultimately is just meant to raise a smile, nothing more. Night night, see you tomorrow - it's fast approaching beddy-byes time!

an interesting cryptic comment with apparent contradictions but may be you can explain, why is it that I seem to misunderstand people's words all the time. It can be frustrating.

Hi Blanche
Yes, it was meant to be a bit Lewis Carroll. I just thought of the first line in a few seconds, and then took it from there. I love doing that, when you don't try to control it, but just go with the flow. I admit it is a bit nightmarish, as is fitting with Halloween, but also decidedly light-hearted. Actually, i thought Angela was quite cute in bedknobs! Maybe I need help!! Yes, there is most certainly some goodies at the end of the maze. Did you help yourself to my cakes yesterday, by the way?

posted by Antonionioni on October 31, 2006 at 3:26 PM | link to this | reply

Hi Marie-Claire!
I know, it was cheeky, but I was really thinking of the comedy idea of the wife rather than a reality. When i woke up from my dream, it was really a disappointment. Because we all want to love our wives and husbands really, and at the end of the dream, I found I did!

Tonyzonit, falling into the innards of a pumpkin, sounds pretty trippy

and out the other side.  Makes me think of Angela Lansbury in "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" for some reason, not reallyy appealing, I can't say as I blame you.

Elizabeth Montgomery in Bewitched or Kim Novak in Bell, Book and Candle, now that you might want to reconsider.  (and as for the rat race, even if you win, you're still a rat, is there wine and cheese at the end of the maze?)

tony, this is clever and funny! very timely and topical of course.
I chuckled a bit, the wifey comment not too flattering, you cheeky!
