Yes, there is not always a reason, explicable to others, for doing things
a certain way or liking certain people, but my radar is pretty accurate, too, its when I overrride it to attempt to please or appease other people I get into trouble.

No, it is not a substitute, I have a good life off the blog, as well, but I
find that, as much as I've tried, I can't really give up blogging either. I need to find the happy balance, but writing is in my blood, my heart and soul, it's how I work through my feelings, those cataclysmic emtional storms and try to find reason, clarity and insight. Some wisdom.
It's not a substitute, but it's certainly a necessary adjunct for me.

I am like you and i do follow my gut instinct, it is the most sensible thing to do, i'd say. It sometimes defies logic but it can see beyond the obvious and appearances. I send out my radar too. I guess I have learnt the hard way, and i am still learning.

cyberspace is fun and safer than the real world but I feel something is missing, I guess it will always fall short of the real world. the only good thing is you can decide what to make of it and you have more control over it than the real world. it is entertaining and informative but no subsitute for real life.

MC, I have been trusting and I have been cynical both, the last few years
tending more towards the latter. Now, I figure I only go wrong if I don't listen to my intuition and my heart. Many people lambaste me for not liking certain people, but I follow my gut instincts and they are seldom wrong.

Too true, although there are definitely people here, whom I don't think
that I would be disappointed to meet "in the flesh" as it were. If their words are consistent with their hearts, I can safely say that I don't think that I would be disappointed to meet "old friends" such as GinnieB, .Dave, or Wiley Coyote, they are too much "themselves" I think to not be as they seem online.

blanche,
Mneme is in Australia, I am the NZ resident. Paris hosted some interesting characters, it was a thriving cultural centre still is, but it did not rub off on me much I am afraid. I think Paris was teeming with dreaming artists writers making a dubious living out their art, living off other's generosity, leeching off the working class that they so despised, or at least some of them.

MarieClaire, am I correct in remembering that you are in New Zealand now?
Or am I getting you confused with Mneme? I would like to go back and meet Dave and his wife, Sam for a beer as we've joked about, sitting in a sidewalk cafe or a bistro. I loved the bistros, even with the smoke, which I don't do.
There's so much rich culture. I am not sure if I've got Sylvia's last name right, I just know that the original Shakespeare and Company was a thriving English and American expatriate book store in the 1930s, I believe, where Keruouac, Hemingway, and Joyce all wrote and stayed, at Sylvia's largesse.

that sounds interesting. I visited the Louvre a couple of times and remember Mona Lisa, and the sculpture from Rodin and that is about it. I want to go back again of course. I heard about that Shakeaspeare place but have never seen it...so interesting, I am now 22 thousand miles away from Paris, too far to hop back whenever i like.

I did like Paris, MC, I liked sitting on Le Boulevard Ste. Germaine,
sipping tiny espresso in a sidewalk cafe, visiting the Louvre, (which is huge and I barely scratched the surface and had to catch my breath, sitting behind the Venus De Milo, just inches from her bare rump), but did not see the Mona Lisa because sadly that exhibit hall was closed.
And the other museum, which name I cannot quite recall, very avant-garde, very abstract. I barely remember. I stayed at Shakespeare and Company with two friends who knew the curmudgeonly owner, George Whitman, (I think if I remember his last name), who must surely be dead by now because he was 80 at the time, although he had a 3 year old daughter named after the oriignal owner, Sylvia Beech. I have good memories of that trip.

What? But this is a deadly serious poem about... er, no, it isn't! Still, it was about time I did a silly one, wasn't it? Maybe there might, if you look hard enough, be some hidden meanings in there. If you find them, please tell me what they are! Yes, MC, it's all your fault. I've caught whatever you've got. Oh, the microwave's done my baked potato... See you later. (That wasn't meant to rhyme!)
